When your baby grows and you lower the crib mattress for safety reasons, the 20” crib skirt may become too long. At this point, the shorter length (14”) crib skirt may look cleaner and more tailored.
Now, although some of our customers purchase both lengths and swap the crib skirts out when necessary, keep the following points in mind:
- Crib Skirts can be fairly easily hemmed, so you may decide to go with the longer skirt and hem it when you lower your crib mattress.
- Because you only keep the crib mattress set at its highest setting for a few months, many new moms opt for the shorter length and choose to fill the space between the crib skirt and the floor with pretty baskets under the crib. You can fill these baskets with extra sheets or blankets. My sister-in-law is a big fan of this look.
- For an elegant nursery, letting your longer crib skirt “puddle” on the ground when you lower your mattress can create a lovely, if not more formal, look.
